In October of 2011 I was invited to travel to Cambodia along with another South African Artist, Daleen Roodt. We were commissioned by a prominent South African Collector to paint a series of paintings based on our experience of the temples of Angkor Wat. I was accompanied by Gert Basson, who also documented the experience and is working on a short documentary about trip and the art that comes from it.

This is one of many paintings that I have been working for the series, it is of a young girl in her playground of ruins. I was struck by the way the light caught her as it filtered through the thick canopy above.
